Brandy Norwood Teases Return to the Slasher Franchise in “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” Reboot

Brandy Norwood, celebrated for her roles in both music and film, has sparked excitement among fans of the iconic slasher genre. With a reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer in development, Norwood has openly discussed the possibility of reprising her role from the sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

More than two decades after starring in the 1998 hit sequel, Norwood addressed the reboot during a recent interview promoting her film, The Front Room. When Entertainment Tonight inquired about her potential involvement in the new slasher film, Norwood responded with an air of hopeful anticipation. “I heard some things about,” Norwood shared, adding, “So, hopefully.” This subtle yet enthusiastic response has ignited speculation and anticipation among fans eager to see familiar faces return to the terrifying franchise.

Norwood famously starred as Karla Wilson in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt. In a twist that defied horror movie conventions, Karla Wilson survived the terrifying events of the sequel. Reflecting on her character’s fate, Norwood playfully acknowledged the contractual necessity of Karla’s survival. When questioned about how Karla could possibly return for the reboot, Norwood admitted, “I don’t know how she would come back,” but firmly stated, “I haven’t thought about that yet but I know that she should come back. She should definitely come back.” This declaration underscores Norwood’s enthusiasm for the franchise and her character.

Adding fuel to the fire, Norwood revealed that there has been outreach regarding her participation in the reboot. “So, we’ll see what happens,” she teased, leaving the door open for a potential comeback. While she hasn’t yet connected with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Norwood expressed a warm sentiment towards her former co-star, saying she “would love to see her” and recalling Hewitt as “always lovely to work with.”

The prospect of Norwood’s return is further amplified by recent comments from Freddie Prinze Jr., who also starred in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and the original film. Prinze Jr. has also indicated ongoing discussions about reprising his role in the reboot. He lauded director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, describing her as “the future of this business” and expressing his motivation to be part of the project. “I’m motivated, I know they’re motivated. I know both sides are trying to make it work. And hopefully we do,” Prinze Jr. told Us Weekly, mirroring Norwood’s optimistic tone.

While original cast members hint at potential returns, the reboot is also injecting fresh blood into the franchise. Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King have been announced in leading roles, signaling a blend of new and potentially familiar faces. Reports also suggest that Jennifer Love Hewitt is in discussions to return as Julie James, further fueling fan excitement for a reunion of legacy characters in this highly anticipated reboot, slated for release on July 18, 2025. The combination of returning stars from I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and fresh talent promises a thrilling new chapter for the I Know What You Did Last Summer saga.
