So, what is today’s Wordle answer for game #1,338?
The answer is: SUAVE.
Greetings, Wordlers! Today’s answer might be a streak-breaker for some – it almost ended mine! I managed a win on my sixth attempt, finally guessing the ‘V’ on my fifth try.
As usual, I started with ORATE, a word that includes all five of the most common letters in Wordle. It seemed like a promising start, with both ‘A’ and ‘E’ turning green, leaving 50 possible solutions according to WordleBot.
However, WordleBot’s suggested best starting words, such as LAPSE and SPARE, would have been even more effective, narrowing it down to 17 possibilities, while SLATE, STARE, and STALE would have reduced it to 14. Opening with SPATE would have left just 13 options.

For my second guess, I aim to include ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘S’, ‘N’, and ‘C’, and in this case, SCALE was the perfect choice. ‘S’ joined ‘A’ and ‘E’ in turning green, reducing the possibilities to eight, according to WordleBot*.
Eight possibilities still feel like a lot with only two attempts left. I first tried SNAKE, but no change.
Then I guessed SPADE. Still no luck.
How about SHAVE? Aha! A green ‘V’ appeared.
After considering the remaining letters and potential duplicates, only one word seemed to fit. I entered SUAVE and solved the puzzle on my sixth try. Phew, that was close!

Yesterday’s Wordle Answer
Are you reading this in a different time zone? The Wordle answer for game #1,337 was CROOK.
Hello again, Wordlers. Yesterday’s Wordle was a tough one. CROOK is an unusual word with a double letter, although ‘O’ is among the most common letters in Wordle.
My usual starting word, ORATE, turned ‘O’ yellow and ‘R’ green. This narrowed it down to 42 possible answers, according to WordleBot.
WordleBot’s best starting words could have improved this. TROPE would have left 34 options, while CARET would have reduced it to 20. Starting with TRACE, CRANE, or CLOSE would have left only 13 possibilities.

Prioritizing ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘S’, ‘N’, and ‘C’ for my second guess, I chose IRONY. The ‘O’ turned green, but there were still 23 possible answers remaining, according to WordleBot*.
On my third attempt, I made a mistake by reusing a letter in the same position. Despite this, I still narrowed it down to 13 possible answers.
How about GROWL? No new letters revealed.
VROOM? No, but it turned the second ‘O’ green, leaving only one possible answer.
After a few minutes of puzzling, I figured it out: CROOK. I entered it and secured a squeaky win on the sixth attempt.

However, experts have mathematically determined the most effective starting words based on letter frequency in English and within Wordle answers themselves. Utilize these words to your advantage!
Secondly, consider letter combinations, especially at the beginning and end of words. Common combinations like SH, ST, CR, and CH appear frequently.
Vowels are also crucial. While not every Wordle answer contains multiple vowels, many do, some even featuring three. A strong starting word should incorporate a couple of vowels. If your initial guesses don’t reveal any vowels, make sure to include one or two in your subsequent attempts. And remember ‘Y’ – it often acts as a vowel and is easily overlooked, frequently appearing at the end of words.
Lastly, experiment with possibilities. As long as you don’t press ‘Enter’, you can test out potential answers to see how they look on the Wordle grid.
